Fair justice rests on fundamental principles enshrined in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen sp;of 1789. All citizens are equal before the law, s no distinction of birth, social situation or fortune.

That one might not desire equality is hardly, or at least hardly seems to be, a morally defensible option today. For equality, as we understand it, is justice! And not wanting justice amounts to siding with injustice. Provocatively, we could express this apparent obviousness by paraphrasing Montesquieu's question: "How can one not be on the left?" For no one embodies, in our eyes, the fierce defense and devotion to a world that would be just because people would (finally) be treated as equals more than the "left-wing" parties. However, the idea that "Justice means equality" doesn't seem to be a truly new one, since it dates back to Aristotle. How then can we explain that it took so long for such an old idea to appear so new and obvious? Perhaps it is simply due to the fact that this statement:
